Internal Auditor & Awareness Training
In-house and public-course training for internal auditors and awareness across all standards we consult on.
What is Internal Auditor Training?
Internal auditor training prepares your employees to conduct effective internal audits of your management system — a requirement of every ISO management system standard. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, IATF 16949, ISO 27001, ISO 22000, and ISO 13485 all require organisations to plan and conduct periodic internal audits to verify that the management system conforms to requirements and is effectively implemented.
Beyond the compliance requirement, well-trained internal auditors are a strategic asset: they identify non-conformities before external auditors do, drive corrective actions, and strengthen the management system over time. An active internal audit programme is one of the clearest indicators of a mature, self-sustaining management system.
RKM delivers training in two formats: in-house courses delivered at your premises (for teams of four or more), and public courses where participants from multiple organisations attend together. Both formats are available in Indonesian and English.
Who needs it?
- Organisations implementing ISO standards for the first time and needing to establish a trained internal audit team
- Companies preparing for surveillance or recertification audits where the certification body will evaluate the internal audit programme
- Organisations whose internal auditors need refresher training or standard-revision updates (e.g., moving to ISO 9001:2015 or ISO 27001:2022)
- IATF 16949-certified companies needing auditors trained specifically in process audit and product audit methods
- Managers and team leaders who need awareness-level understanding of ISO requirements without full auditor training
- Organisations building in-house capability to reduce dependence on external consultants for ongoing system maintenance

Benefits of RKM training
- Certification-aligned — course content is directly aligned to certification audit requirements, so trained auditors know what auditors look for and how to find the same issues first
- Practical, not theoretical — all courses include practical exercises: audit planning, checklist development, interview technique, and findings documentation
- In-house flexibility — in-house courses can be customised to use your own management system documentation and real audit scenarios from your processes
- Experienced trainers — RKM trainers are practising consultants with direct certification audit experience, not classroom-only facilitators
- Bilingual delivery — courses delivered in Indonesian, English, or a mix based on participant preference
- Post-training support — RKM supports your newly trained auditors through their first internal audit cycle, providing observation and coaching
Our process — from kickoff to certificate in 4 steps
- Gap Analysis. We assess the current competence of your internal audit team, review your existing audit programme, and recommend the appropriate training course and format for your situation.
- Documentation. We provide course materials, audit checklists, and audit planning templates for participants to use during and after the course.
- Implementation & Training. We deliver the course — combining theory, worked examples, and practical exercises. Participants leave with the skills and tools to conduct an internal audit of their management system.
- Certification Audit Support. For organisations implementing a management system alongside training, we support your internal auditors through their first audit cycle and prepare evidence of the audit programme for the certification auditor.
What you'll get
- Course materials (slides, workbook, exercises) for each participant
- Audit planning templates and checklists applicable to the standard
- Findings documentation templates (nonconformity report, audit report)
- Certificate of attendance for each participant
- Post-course Q&A support
- Optional: first internal audit accompaniment and coaching by RKM consultant
Why RKM for training
RKM trainers bring direct consulting and auditing experience to the classroom. Because we spend most of our time implementing management systems and supporting certification audits, our training content reflects current certification body expectations and real-world implementation challenges — not just the text of the standard.
Our in-house training format is particularly valuable: we can structure exercises around your own management system and processes, making the training immediately applicable rather than generic. Participants audit your actual processes during the course, producing real draft findings that feed directly into your next internal audit cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does internal auditor training lead to a personal certification? RKM issues a certificate of attendance for all training participants. Personal auditor certification (e.g., as a Certified Quality Auditor or Lead Auditor) is available through separate examination-based programmes from bodies such as IRCA, CQI, or ASQ. RKM training provides the foundational competence for these programmes but is not itself an exam-based certification.
How many internal auditors do we need? ISO standards require competent internal auditors, but do not specify a minimum number. In practice, two to four trained internal auditors is a common minimum for a small to medium-sized organisation, allowing auditors to audit processes they are not responsible for (independence requirement).
Can our internal auditors audit the area they work in? No. ISO standards require that internal audits be conducted by auditors who are independent of the area being audited. A production supervisor can audit the office, but not the production line. We cover this during training.
What is the difference between process audit and product audit in IATF 16949? IATF 16949 requires three types of internal audit: management system audit, process audit, and product audit. Process audits assess the effectiveness of a manufacturing process using a turtle diagram approach. Product audits evaluate a finished product against its specifications. We cover all three methods in IATF 16949 internal auditor training.
How often should internal audits be conducted? ISO standards require that all processes and requirements be audited over a defined audit cycle, typically annual. High-risk processes or areas with previous non-conformities should be audited more frequently. IATF 16949 has specific requirements on audit frequency that we cover in automotive training.
Can training be delivered remotely? Yes — RKM delivers virtual training via video conference for awareness courses and some auditor training modules. Practical exercise sessions are more effective in-person, so for full internal auditor training we recommend in-person delivery where possible.
What languages are courses delivered in? RKM delivers training in Bahasa Indonesia, English, or a combination. Course materials can be provided in either language. Most in-house courses for Indonesian companies are delivered in Indonesian with English materials.
